Philosophy

Patience, Process and Opportunism

Richard makes photographs working within a self developed process which he constantly seeks to improve. He trains repeatedly to be good at what he does and to improve every aspect of the creation process. But photography, by its very nature, is a discipline that rewards opportunism so Richard has also learned to seize the moment when it presents itself.

Enjoying The Process

Beautiful Tools

Most of his work is done using traditional rolls of celluloid film. It's the enjoyment gained from actually working through the process that this entails that drives this decision along with the love of the slightly imperfect look that results from working this way. Richard simply loves the cameras he uses as things in themselves. Beautifully crafted tools optimised for use by a person who has had to study and practice in order to make them do what their designers had in mind when they created them .

Roots

Richard's Story

Richard spent his early working life in the British Army. He saw operational service in The First Gulf War, in Northern Ireland and in Bosnia. He was awarded an MBE in December 1999. He also served in Germany, Cyprus (twice), Denmark, Norway and Australia. It was during the last operational tour in Bosnia that his interest in photography began when he deployed with a Olympus OM10 and a couple of lenses borrowed from his wife. He was in big trouble when he got home because the camera was lost somewhere near a place called Gornji Vakuf. Richard has a watchmaking YouTube channel with 121K subscribers and over 15 Million views and runs his own watchmaking business majorwatches.co.uk
